Our own March Madness - The Whedonverse Character Tournament

Who is the best character of the entire Whedonverse? We all have our favorites, but in a match to the death...who would win the popular vote? Well, we are planning an ambitious month long journey to find out just that. Our own "March Madness" if you will. Over the next 4 weeks we will give out the computer-generated randomized pairings of characters from Joss Whedon shows: Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dr. Horrible. Some of them are hilariously paired, too. Just wait and see.

By the way, we've done this before...back when Buffyfest was just a private forum with a few members. We'd get into fights. Matter of fact, one time Bitsy refused to put in her final choice for an episode - which would decide the Final Champion since it was a tie-breaker. It was something about defending Cordelia Chase's honor. Don't ask.

Ok, today is day 1. This is part (1 of 4) of round 1. It will end in 4 days - March 5th at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time. See the pairings below and if you want to play, leave your choices in the comments section of this post.

    -This is impossible since Lorne is probably my favorite B character but Spike is so going to take it and he's obviously fantastic too. Still, someone has to vote for Lorne and if that person's not me, then who will it be? Lorne it is. Ugh.

    And oh there are going to be some tears....I can tell already. Hell I'm already depressed that Lorne got knocked out so early. What are the fricken odds that he'd be against one of the most beloved characters of them all? He couldn't be up against Principal Wood or something?

    I have to question some peoples choices.

    The people that chose Lilly/Anne over River, have you watched Firefly/Serenity?

    Unless your talking about Jonathan the Vampire Slayer, Oz would destroy him, fast!

    Lastly, why hasn't anyone picked Jasmine over Darla? Did you skip those episodes of Angel?

    marveldenton, THis tourney is for Favorite/Best Character, in your opinion.

    If you're thinking that people are choosing Chantarelle/Lily/Anne over River in "Who would win in a fight" or something, then I agree that would definitely be silly. River could probably even take a slayer.

    - Oz (Poor Jonathan. This kind of feels like when Andrew got all stabby on him. I'm sorry, little buddy)

    - Chantarelle/Lily/Anne (Never liked River. Really enjoyed how far Anne's arc extended for such a minor character)

    - Willy the Snitch (Gotta be honest. Robia La Morte got all crazy christian and ruined Jenny Calendar forever for me.)

    - Mal (This was the worst. *The* worst. Poor Gina Torres. I'm turning on you twice tonight.)

    - Faith (And after I wrote a huge article all about Penny, right? Shame on me but, come one, Faith is just *awesome*. She and Darla have my favorite redemption stories.)

    - Lorne (It's not easy being green but I love Lorne almost as much as I live Kermit the Frog. Sing me some Rainbow Connection, baby!)

    - Darla (Best character progression ever. Period.)

    - Fray (Despite the lackluster Time of Your Life arc of Season 8, she's still one of the most original and interesting characters Joss has ever created.)
