IDW Panel NYCC 2010 (SPOILERS)

During IDW's panel, Chris Ryall and company made a little announcement regarding the final future of their Angel properties. Here's some video and accompanying images. Some spoilers are ahead so, you know, avast!

James Marsters Experience NYCC 2010

For the second time we got the chance to see James Marsters answer fan questions and for the second time he absolutely blew us away. Such a gentleman, so gracious. We took as much video as we could and, as things went on, I got bolder and, hence, closer to the man himself. Unfortuantely the camera died before James sang a song (I know!) but, if someone else got footage of it, I will find it, link to it, and give credit where credit is due. Until then, please enjoy the footage we do have.

Michael Jackson "Spuffed Enough"

Matter of fact, some might say he "Spuffed" too much. Either way, here is Bitsy and Ivan doing an unplugged version of their MJ sampled hit, as tribute to the gloved one.

Buffyfest 2009: The Buffyfest Guerilla Drive-In

The Guerilla Drive-In was a total success. EVERYONE needs to try this, it's so fun. The concept, conceived and set up by Ryan, is basically: get some equipment (a projector, a power inverter, laptop, fm transmitter, a bunch of cars and a Buffy DVD), find a random wall at night and rebelliously project Buffy on to it. Every car then tunes in to a specific FM station and picks up the audio. So many things threatened to foil our loitering plans, most notably the torrential rain we've been seeing here in the North East for what seems like forever. It was pretty nasty and that's no way to set up electronics on top of cars. But did we let that stop us? No way! We're Buffyfest! If we can't hold a Buffyfest then something has gone wrong with the world.

Prior to going out we did our pre-party thing. Now, we already knew what we were watching this year. There wasn't going to be any of the usual polling and voting. After a bit of a voting SNAFU last year, we had it slated that we'd be viewing the 3 episode arc of "The Prom", "Graduation Day pt. 1" and "Graduation Day pt. 2". So before venturing out we did the whole, eating, drinking, partying, Buffy Trivia Game show (which Ryan hosted for the first time and Michelle won!), and gift bags (filled with Whedon themed teas and other goodies.) We watched the first 2 eps indoors and then saved the finale for the Drive-in. There was definitely a feeling of doubt and wanting to just finish the viewing inside since the weather was not letting up, but we had to try.

So our "plan B" was to find somewhere underground or sheltered. Now, it was pretty late by the time we set out, so finding a spot in the rain was a bit tricky. But Michael thought of a perfect underground parking garage normally used by stores that were closed at that moment. It was more lit up in there than we would've liked, but was still dim enough. After some very small technical difficulties we were up and running. Watching Buffy in that gritty underground way was so cool! Jen likened it to "temporary Buffy graffiti". And there we were, all in different cars passing the popcorn and movie candy, just having a ball. I was sure the cops would be coming around to bust us, but we lucked out. And really, we just may have convinced them to pull up a police car, tune in to 88.9 and just get into the wonderful season 3 finale of Buffy. Hee!

Special thanks to Ryan as we wouldn't have thought of it or been able to do this without all of his fanciness and fancy stuff! And to Frankie for his fuse :)

fanvid sunday: buffy vs. edward cullen edition

Whedonesque may think that fans are above petty bashing but we here at Buffyfest know that the bash is a quintessential part of being a fan. So for those who missed it, I present to you Buffy lacing awesomely into one very sparkly, lol worthy vampire.

Just want to point out that a lot of Buffy's most incredulous looks, comments on stalking, and general mockery are with regard to Spike. Just thought I'd throw that out there because, as you know, I like to do a little bashing of my own.

I'm so sad! Won't you ever let up, Bitsy?

Nope. Never.

Samantha, our little Buffy fan goes nuts in this secret surprise!

Samantha, now 8 years old and who has been featured on the blog before, surprised us with this little ditty over the weekend. Enjoy and Don't Spuff whatever you do!

fanvid sunday

Tara was recently in contact with Katherine who showed us this wonderful Buffy Season 8 video which all three of us instantly fell in love with. When that happens it becomes an obvious fanvid Sunday for all to enjoy. Here it is!

Have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend, all you Buffyfesters out there!

fanvid Sunday: T:TSCC Edition

It's no secret that we here at Buffyfest are huge fans of Sarah Connor Chronicles. While we've been happy to see Joss, Eliza, and Nathan all get the pickup for another season of fun, our hearts have been breaking for Summer Glau and crew who turned out killer performances week after week. With that in mind we present this special fanvid Sunday created by allii6 in celebration of Terminator in all it's glory.

What are your favorite TSCC moments? I really hope a miracle happens and it gets a third season. Happy Sunday, everybody.

Tara's note: In response to that I'm adding this (thanks DarthAngelus for the link!) Hey look at me! I'm on Fanvid Sunday!:

Can't Stop the Serenity - Support Equality Now

We're proud to announce our sponsorship of Can't Stop the Serenity which supports Equality Now through their fabulous Browncoat events around the world. The events give those fans a chance to see the “Big Damn Movie” on the big screen, while helping to protect human rights of women around the world.

This year, many cities are also showing Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog in addition to the usual Serenity screenings at their events. Click here to see what's happening in your neck of the woods, and if tickets are available yet. The website is updated daily with registered cities and their status...but if there isn't an event in your city, you could always host your own - no matter how small!

What we've donated is a Dollhouse poster signed by the man himself, Joss Whedon, at the Apple store event in Soho, NYC. This was the one where he and Eliza recorded a podcast just prior to Dollhouse's premier, which you can hear at itunes. We're also very excited to be attending and donating to our local NYC Browncoats' CSTS event. We'll give more details about that shortly. In the mean time, watch this for some inspiration.

"The Chronicles of Humanity" Machimina series featuring Felicia Day

The Chronicles of Humanity is an original science fiction series that's animated using a technique called Machinima. What's Machinima you say? It's created by using graphic engines from video games! Hooray! Specifically, in this case, The Sims 2 and Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. With the footage from those games and a very talented group of voice actors, including fan favorite Miss Felicia Day, the series was made possible. We spoke with the series creator Damien Valentine about the project and working with Felicia. See that interview below, but first: the trailer.

Chronicles of Humanity: Descent - Trailer

Buffyfest: Can you tell us a little bit about The Chronicles of Humanity? What's it about?

Damien Valentine: The Chronicles of Humanity is an original science fiction animated web series, set in the 24th century. The idea is we're only just starting to get out into space and colonize new worlds. There has never really been any conflict, which is why the whole situation on Titan is dealt with so badly in the first episode. This first season really deals with the aftermath of that, which we'll be seeing from the perspective of three sets of characters. The story itself is planned out over a three season arc, although I can't really talk about the other two just yet, I don't want to give anything away.

B: We understand you approached Felicia Day to be appear pre-Dr. Horrible. Great timing!

DV: It was perfect timing and she was great to work with. The recording session was handled online between Felicia, Elizabeth (playing the part of Katherine) and myself. She was professional but also friendly, so we all enjoyed ourselves. Between takes the three of us chatted about all sorts of things, from The Guild to Star Wars and video games.

From that session and subsequent discussions, I've picked up quite a lot about producing video for the web, hopefully that shows up in the series.

She's in four of the ten episodes. The first one already released and the other three are later on in the season.

B: How was working with her?

DV: It's a great pleasure to have her involved and I hope she'll be back for the second season.

B: This is your first original Sci fi series (after working on quite a few Star Wars films.) Any plans for a Whedonverse one?

DV: The first time I tried this sort of animation, Angel had just ended so I tried my hand and a story with vampires and slayers called Consanguinity. It came about after talking to some online friends and wondering what it would be like if we were vampires. What can I say? Joss brings out the real geek in me. I may revisit those characters someday, if I can think up a good story for them.

New episodes of The Chronicles of Humanity are released every Tuesday (that's today!) and can be found on the site: http://www.chroniclesofhumanity.com/

For those people curious about Consanguinity, that's available in the videos section here: http://www.bathtub-productions.com/

And tweeps, you can also follow Damien on Twitter

Special thanks to The Jedi for the tip!

Dollhouse panel at Paley fest '09 - Video

Joss, Eliza and the whole Dollhouse gang talk at last night's Paley Fest 2009 event about the Pilot episode "Echo" that never aired.

Joss Whedon Speaks as a Humanist

Humanism is a broad category of ethical philosophies that affirm the dignity and worth of all people, based on the ability to determine right and wrong by appealing to universal human qualities, particularly rationality, without resorting to the supernatural or alleged divine authority from religious texts.
Joss Whedon was awarded the 2009 Cultural Humanism Award at Harvard last week. In the 1st clip, Joss discusses Humanism, education and faith. The 2nd clip deals with the issues of morality. Whedon cites Buffy's decision to kill Angel as an example of his own journey to understanding morality.

"The enemy of humanism is not faith. The enemy of humanism is hate, is fear, is ignorance, is the darker part of man that is in every humanist, every person in the world. That is the thing we have to fight." - Joss Whedon

Her [Buffy] search is my own. Those are questions that came up that I had to answer."
-Joss Whedon

Amber Benson at NYCC Writer's Panel

On Sunday I had the pleasure of sitting in on a panel called Writers on Writing where a number of excellent genre authors talked about their craft, where their ideas come from, and the different ways one can try to break into the business. For the purposes of this post, I've focused on all of Amber's responses to the questions but the whole panel was really fantastic. Enjoy!
