Eliza's WTF moment on Jimmy Fallon

While Michelle and I were talking this morning, I remembered that Eliza was on Late Night last night. I figured we'd check it out. Thus far her interview crawl hasn't been going very well, with Letterman not talking about Dollhouse at all and Good Day New York not even knowing the show had premiered. I mean it couldn't be any worse than that, could it? Well... I'll let you watch this clip and judge it for yourself:

Do you think she realized the implication of what she said? She did basically say that Buffy fans are crazy stalkers who are too into her, right? That's a pretty hurtful thing to say especially when so many of those fans are trying to help out a show whose ratings are in the gutter.

Here's the full interview including a fight sequence between Eliza and Jimmy.

UPDATE: I want to make sure people see a good interview with Eliza as done through the NY Post. She does a great job here and the interviewer is knowledgeable which is helpful. If you want to spread around a good video for people to watch, this is it. Check it out:

Hmmm. The quote out of context seemed off, but after watching the rest of the interview in which she referred to the rest of Fallon's guests, her dog, and her own father, as crazy, it seems that she just really over-uses that word. She also calls herself schizophrenic, which is clearly untrue. As stated in 'Princess Bride': "I don't think that word means what you think it does."

I tend to find it more offensive when shows with huge online or cult followings make fun of those groups on the actual show--which seems to happen a lot, sadly. It's ridiculous that shows which feature otherwise intelligent and creative writing can't seem to get beyond the inaccurate stereotypes of "geeks" or "comic book fans."

I kind of think it's funny when shows make fun of their own fans, if done properly. For example, the Supernatural segments on the Sam/Dean slash fiction were hysterical.

I don't attach too much significance to Eliza's comment, as she seemed to be using 'crazy' to mean intense and obsessive. That pretty much describes how I feel about BtVS. :)

I'm definitely intense and obsessive and, I suppose one could say, crazy and stalker-like, so I don't think I can really be offended by what she said. ;)

she's obviously kidding, prude.

Nothing for Canadian Buffyfest readers, huh? Fuck Hulu.

Mace, I definitely agree with you about Supernatural--that is one show that did it right & made it hilarious, rather than tired and clicheed.

Haha to anon calling you a prude!! Bits, you got skank and prude in 1 week.

Question, were they playing "blinded by the light...wrapped up like a douche" (deuce, really) because she's Eliza Dushku??? And on top of that they had to bleep it even though it's not douche and her name isn't even douche?? Because that's all strange, offensive and hilarious at the same time.

I think it's a little naive to assume she was kidding. I watched it a few times before I posted this because I didn't want to come off as nasty about or angry unduly. She was definitely saying that Buffy fans are crazy, obsessed stalker types. Maybe some of you feel cozy with being assigned those descriptors but me? I just like to watch and talk about these tv shows. That's it.

I absolutely thought this when I watched it. Sure, I know that it must be super weird to act on a show and then have millions of fans who want to know everything about you, but when your show is about to be canceled, maybe don't bash your hardcore fans that are doing everything they can to improve ratings.

I dunno but she did also call us Buffy Fans awesome, so maybe were just crazy awesome ;)

Eh, I really think you should ligthen up. She didn't mean all of us. Every fandom has its share of weirdos and she's apparently encountered a few in the past. *shrug*

How do you know what she meant? I can only take her comments at face value. She compared Buffy fans to her crazy, bumbling, stalker dog. I'm sure she's had some actual stalkers but that doesn't make it okay to make a blanket statement that insults your entire fan base, especially when they're going out of their way to help you out of a bad situation.

Agreed, Bitsy. We have no way to know her actual meaning, and she should think more carefully before airing such thoughts on national television. Alienating your small and vocal fan base is certainly not the smartest or coolest thing to do when your show is on the bubble. Sigh. I guess that I'm just an optimist ;) Also, I'm not getting involved in the "Save Dollhouse" hysteria. I'm maintaining my usual mildly intense degree of fandom, but going no further ;)

One must take these sorts of things in context, particularly when coming from a skank with a tattoo of an Albanian Eagle on her neck. Nothing I hate more than a woman who paints her flesh. It just screams harlot, loser, conformist, bum, idiot, and all-out bitch (excluding Alyson Hannigan and Sarah Michelle). Anyone who gets a tattoo ultimately regrets it in the strategic long-run. Eliza is a no-talent, anyway. It does make me sad that Bitsy is upset about this. Poor, sweet man. Bitsy, babe, I'm here to lend my support in your time of need. Lean on me, sweetness. I'll get you through this (after which I'll kick your goofy skank ass to the curb along with everyone else who takes this sheot seriously). Do take it easy on Anon, as he/she is most probably the one who voted for you in my Polldaddy which Buffyfest babe would you want to hump most poll.
Brooke, I must say you're pretty damn hot. For a party girl, you sure do like serious literature. I would most definitely like to have sex with you. Too bad you're not worthy. OMG, Elin is from Sweden. Oh, baby. I'm lovin' it. Look at that blonde hair. McCool, I definitely like what you're trying to say via your blogger pic. More women should adopt your altruistic attitude towards male genitalia. I dare say it'd be a much better world with you in the lead.

I am not an Eliza fan and am watching DH in spite of her, not because of her. Her acting is lame and it is a shame that Joss was not having lunch with Amy Acker when making Dollhouse came up. Amy could pull off a character of the week, Eliza not so much. Not a SMG fan either, but do love Spike and Angelus and have watched the series from start to finish many times. I think Buffy is the best series ever on TV and Spike the best character. You can find every human emotion in that show and I have cried buckets and laughed wildly with the cast. Great show.

Well if you want to get all hot and bothered over nothing, have at it.

Oh and yes, it's a shame she said this when we're all trying desperately to help Dollhouse out. Buffyfest in particular has championed the show from the beginning! Now that the show really needs help, it's been so great to see Buffyfest do everything they can to help this show get viewers.

Oh wait...

Bitsy said...

Hot and bothered? Because I pointed out that what she said was a little messed up? I never said she was an awful human being just that this one thing she said was kind of not smart.

I don't think much Dollhouse but obviously many people do and it's counter intuitive to mock those people on network television. That's all.

Agree with the hulu bit, can anyone upload this so some canadians can see what the fuss is about?

InyRules said...

Yeah... This comment could not have come at a worse time. Whether kidding or not, those fans are strongly campaigning to keep her current show alive.

She sings in the Caahr. Cute Bostonian.

That last interview was good.

I guess it seems to me like she means it as a joke, but I get the impression that she doesn't do that well verbally when it's not scripted.
Meh. Doesn't offend me.
