Dollhouse is done.

A series ratings low for the finale "Omega" is a certain cancellation for Dollhouse. TV By the numbers and The Hollywood reporter is reporting. Really makes you wonder, why couldn't we save Dollhouse?

This brings us to the final installment of the betting phase of the Dollhouse Death Watch (as the next one, whenever we get final word if it's canceled or not, will just be the finish.) So, all season long we have had a little bet going on over here at Buffyfest. As much as we love Whedon with all our hearts, some of us were skeptical, sarcastic, or just plain scared when it came to the fate of Dollhouse. So we wagered a little something and while readers tacked on our standings, we added your names to the chart, you know...for the fun.

Here are those results:

Do you think still Dollhouse will make it to season 2? Leave us a comment and let us know which group you belong:

Tara's Group (the bitter realists) - thinks Dollhouse will not make it to season 2.

Michelle's Group (the starry-eyed optimists) - who believes that Dollhouse get renewed for a second season.

Edited to add: I really cannot believe no one died in this show and so no one wins the poll that's on the right sidebar. Obviously most people thought it would be Dominic as he won with 34% (353 out of 1027 votes)...and he did get sent to the attic, but no classic Joss death. He probably doesn't want to play it out. Ok, I'm going to take the poll down now.

For the record, I voted for Dr. Saunders just b/c I was spoiled for Amy Acker being on only 6 or 7 eps, but nope! Didn't happen. Although she did come in 2nd in the poll with 27% of the votes (282) so clearly many were thinking the same.

Stupid network putting it on the worst night ever and putting that godawful American Idol on four times a week. This is just sad but I knew it was coming even though I had my fingers crossed. It is a shame since it's such a great show.

I so hate ratings. They need to update the system or something. and I double ditto what barbara said!

I for the life of me cant seem to throw in the towel in yet lm hoping the dvd sales and the praises from unlikely sources such as time magazine and ew can sway the fox network 2 keep it on 4 a 2nd season

Okay, so I love this site. But when you guys post stuff like "The Dollhouse Death Watch" you're kinda asking for trouble. You knew it probably didn't stand a chance and are surprised it may get cancelled?

And, it's not cancelled yet...hopefully.

It's true that it's not canceled yet, Mike_D, but in my opinion those ratings didn't help the cause. The Death Watch is more about a personal bet we've made with each other about DH standing a chance. Ironic that every one of us have changed our stance since the Death Watch started (more about that in our first podcast later.)

I think that this will be another Firefly, that it'll get cancelled but do so well in DVD sales that we will see some continuation of the story!

While the ratings aren't stellar and maybe it wasn't given the chance it should have i'm not going to be disappointed if Dollhouse does disappear. It was always pretty mediocre for me and there were only a handful of episodes i really enjoyed sadly.

Sure it got good towards the end, and maybe given another season it'd be able to build on itself more... but overall i've been left disappointed with Dollhouse.

Dollhouse is a great show and I really want to see it come back next year, that being said, I found myself really enjoying the episodes with Sierra rather then Echo. No offense to Eliza but I think Dinchen could carry the show better. I seemed to forget about Eliza’s acting almost as soon as she was off the screen and gravitate towards the other characters. Like in the finale, I barley noticed Echo but Alpha was amazing to watch because Alan is such a great actor and can really play any part. It seems Eliza is really only good at playing one character, the ass kicking hot chick. Sorry just my opinion. I cant be the only one that thinks this….right?

no offense rayna but everyone contributes 2 the show sierra is okay but 2 say the show can revolve around her please every character fm echo to even topper makes the show tick why do think joss picked them

I didn't mean that she's a bad actress, she's not. I loved tru calling (still watch it all the time). I'm just saying that she wasn't believable as some of the people she was portraying in the show whereas I beleaved every charicter Sierra played. And yes Joss chose them all for a reason and it couldn't survive without any of them, but I think I like every one elses characters more. Like I said just my opinion.

I think Topher is my fave, so far :-)
Better be back next year!

This show was so high concept, and had so many flaws. Like Jaina said, there were only a few eps that were enjoyable. But largely, it was cringeworthy.

My thought after watching the final episode was that I enjoyed "Natural Born Killers" and "Kalifornia" better the first time. Dushku's attempt to invoke Juliette Lewis were just sad.

I am still in Tara's group and do not think the series will be picked up again. But if it is, then its biggest contribution to the Whedonverse will be the fodder it provides for academic analysis. I have some ideas brewing in that regard, but will spare you.

(Sorry if this is too ranty; I'm exam-crazed).

It's funny (in a sad way) how the "save Dollhouse" campaigns began even before the show started. What I don't get is why Fox would buy a Joss show without at least assuming 2 seasons. Shouldn't they know by now that his shows get better as they go as he has a chance to develop the characters and plot lines along the way (and yes, kill people off). I still think it would be great on HBO or Showtime -- is it that expensive to produce that one of those wouldn't pick it up? It can't cost more than the Tudors with all those fancy costumes and sets. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we get a second season. Even a good not great Joss show (and there were a few great eps so far)is better than 98% of what's on TV now.

Last epi: Veeery interesting but edit nightmare. Missed the tag "1ne yr. ago." and caught it 2 1⁄4 viewings later. confusion temporary. Liked it so much, still mulling concepts actively. Didn't dig the Charlie Starkweather setup for Alpha so much but saw it's necessity. Here's hoping it gets picked up next season and doesn't go the way of "Kindred".

If it doesn't get renewed... and it probably won't unless Fox has a specific plan in mind for what to do with it... look for it to continue in the form of direct-to-DVD movies.

If Joss and Eliza want to do that, of course.

rayna said...

not offended, I get what your saying. Every one hase there own opinion :-). I just hope it comes back so we can really see how they all do when Joss hase some freedom to do what he wants. Then we will really know if its going to work.

Carl Manning said...

Wow well stated l hope with all the fans and tv and magazine critics pushing 4 it might have a chance of being renewed l got my fingers crossed

So do you all see what's happening today?? It looks like I'm going to be vindicated. I hope.

The chance for a second season for Dollhouse is looking better and better.
