Exclusive Interview with Whedonverse Costume Designer Shawna Trpcic

All Whedonverse shows have their trademark clothing. Whether it be Jayne's infamous hat, Dr. Horrible's lab coat or Illyria's form after taking over Fred's body, the outfitting in our favorite shows help shape the personalities and create visual icons of each beloved character. Shawna Trpcic is the fabulous designer responsible for not only those items mentioned, but many more costumes in the Whedonverse.

Shawna was nice enough to meet with us right before her SDCC panel Costume Designers: Designing for TV Production on Friday morning at the Hilton Gaslamp, directly across from the San Diego Convention Center. Check out our interview below where we talk about all things Whedonverse style. For us, this was one of the highlights of the now historic SDCC 2010, where Whedonites and Joss himself ruled the weekend. Enjoy!

Buffyfest Interviews Marvel Man and Whedon Fan, Arune Singh

We're not done with our SDCC wrap-up just yet! We still have interviews coming up with the faulous Anthony Stewart Head, Costumer Shawna Trpcic, even more from the entire crew at IDW including Scott Tipton and Mariah Huehner, and the cameras turned around when Buffyfest was interviewed by Brian Lynch for a twist. Fun stuff. Look out for all of that next week in part two of our SDCC wrap up.

To kick the second part off, check out our interview with a Marvel Executive who just happens to also be a hard core Whedon fan, Arune Singh. This was shot right on the SDCC convention center floor by the Marvel booth, just prior to The Avengers announcement. Good times.

Exclusive Interview with Scott Allie at SDCC 2010

Spoilers for Buffy S.8 and beyond:

A big piece of Whedonverse news coming out of SDCC this year was Joss Whedon's announcement that Scott Allie would be co-writing the tail end of Buffy Season 8. The World Wide Web's still a buzzing with questions about what this all means. We were able to talk to Scott minutes after the announcement was made right in the middle of all the craziness that was Dark Horse's booth at San Diego Comic Con. Scott elaborates on co-writing and also gives us some info on Spike, the Riley One-Shot, Season 9 and more.

Buffyfest Interviews Whedon Fan at SDCC 2010

While at SDCC, we've been taking photos of as many of the gajillions of people we see in a Jayne hat as possible. After the Joss & JJ panel, we met up with Katie for a pic to add to this "Jayne Hat Compendium" and decided to do a quick interview about the panel we just saw, why Joss Whedon is awesome, and of course, the man they call Jayne's fantastic head wear. Here's the video of Joss Whedon being announced as the big cheese of 'The Avengers' after the star-studded cast was revealed on stage just a few hours ago. He looks so proud and excited, deservedly so.

Another day filled with the ups and downs of SDCC. The "ups" started with "The Joss Whedon Experience" panel and the "downs" come from the usual internet woes that have been plaguing San Diego (and us) with a vengeance.

Let's not focus on the problems right now, though, and just bask in the words of Whedon instead. Check out the video below from Joss's solo panel on Friday.

Exclusive Interview with Buffy comic book artist Georges Jeanty

Whilst dashing about on Saturday, we had the fantastic opportunity to catch up with none other than Georges Jeanty, the man responsible for the art of Buffy Season 8. We did the whole thing right on the convention room floor and the feeling was electric and fun. We opened up the Q&A to our affiliates at Slay Alive, who conjured up a few additional questions to give you insight into the artist's mind. What makes the man tick? Watch the video to find out!

Dr. Horrible NYC Sing-along Recap & Interview with Clinton McClung Pt 2.

So despite the freezing cold and snowy night in New York we still had a great time at the Dr. Horrible Sing-along at the Paley Center. Many people braved the storm to sing their hearts out. There were laundry bubbles and evil mustaches (more on that further down the post.) Afterward, host Clinton McClung was gracious enough to sit down with us for part 2 of our interview on camera. See below:

Buffyfest: We had heard that that you started this because you used to have parties and it turned into this thing. Are you proud of what you've accomplished?

CM: Yeah! The other thing I always thought about the sing-alongs
was that I never wanted to do it at fan conventions, not because I hate fan
conventions, but they have their own thing going on and all these people are
into it. I love doing it in movie theatres because it was more open to anybody
and I got such a variety of crowds at the sing-alongs, people who were casual
Buffy fans and a lot of first-timers who had never seen an episode of Buffy. I
started these sing-alongs just to get people hooked.

Buffyfest: How did make the move from Boston to New York?

CM: I quit my job at the movie theatre in Boston and I was
feeling a little tapped out and I moved here (NYC) and I got a job working at
the IFC Center as a consultant and it while I was in meetings with them that I
mentioned that I used to do this Buffy thing and they were like, "Let's do it!"
Almost immediately after it happened and the IFC thing petered out, I started
doing a show a weekend and I would spend the entire week preparing for the show
and then I would travel. I didn't make money off if it, just enough to live on
and I was hoping as it went on that I would be able to make some money. Then
when it was cancelled, I was kinda unemployed for about a year.

Buffyfest: Were you sad when it got cancelled?

CM: I was devastated.

Some interactivity included a sea of waving red glowsticks during part in when the on-screen crowd is doing the same (sans glowsticks). Also, as Dr. Horrible grows huge during Brand New Day we were instructed to "Stand up and crush the ant-like people around you". Fun.

Clinton McClung said, "If the [Dr. Horrible] sing-along became more of a regular thing, there's

a lot more stuff I'd like to do – I'd love to have balls for the audience, when

he actually says "balls" and certain little give-aways, sort of keepsakes that

people could take home like the buttons we used to have [at the Buffy Sing-along]."
